The diplomatic crisis between the United States and China is one of the most significant issues on the world stage today. These tensions have increased along with various events, including trade disputes, aggressive foreign policies, and conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region. One of the main causes is the trade conflict that began in 2018 when US President Donald Trump implemented high tariffs on Chinese products to reduce the trade deficit. China retaliated by imposing tariffs on American goods, leading to a protracted trade war. Despite peace efforts under the Joe Biden administration, tensions between the two countries remain high due to global concerns about China’s economic dominance. The Taiwan issue is also a source of tension. The United States recognizes the “One China” policy but simultaneously supports Taiwan with arms sales and military exercises. China considers Taiwan part of its territory and has warned that it will not hesitate to use military force. In this context, incidents, such as the flight of Chinese warplanes into Taiwan’s air defense zone, add to existing regional tensions. In terms of technology, a tech war between the two countries has emerged with increasing attention paid to companies like Huawei and TikTok. The US has banned the use of Chinese products in its communications networks and forged international alliances to limit China’s influence in the technology sector. China responded by strengthening internal policies and investing in the domestic technology sector. On the political side, the United States condemns human rights violations in China, especially regarding the treatment of the Uyghur people in Xinjiang and policies in Hong Kong. This reaction has sparked criticism from Beijing, which sees the moves as interference in its internal affairs. The diplomatic crisis also affected military relations. Military exercises conducted by the two countries in the South China Sea and the Taiwan border are often exaggerated by the media, adding to fears of a potential confrontation. Former US Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, has warned that misunderstandings or wrong calculations could lead to armed conflict. Turning to the economic impact, this tension not only affects bilateral relations but also the entire global economy. Supply chains have been affected, and many multinational companies are looking for alternatives outside China. This raises concerns about economic growth in Asia and the long-term impact on global markets. Finally, resolving this crisis requires a multilateral approach. International organizations and other countries can play a role by strengthening dialogue and cooperation on global issues such as climate change, public health and world security. Thus, this history of tension may be part of the journey toward a more stable relationship in the future. Tensions between the United States and China are a reflection of the broader global power struggle, and their effects will continue to be felt in a variety of areas, including economics, politics, and security.
